Cold Working 101

Course Outline

Coldworking glass allows you to take your work to the next level in terms of a cleaner, professional finish. Learn the basics of coldworking with Laurel Kohut. laurel will be taking the class through the proper use of each coldworking machine at Blue Dog Glass. Students will also be set projects that will allow them to learn how to cut, grind, drill and work the surfaces of glass to various finishes from heavily textured to high polish. Students will work on two projects that covers the basics to get you started. All materials are included in this workshop.

Laurel Kohut has been working with glass since 1999 and has a Masters in Fine Arts majoring in glass. An accomplished artist and technical glass blower, she has exhibited throughout Australia as well as internationally. Her work has been short-listed for prestigious glass art awards, the Ranamok Glass Prize and the Tom Malone Glass Prize. You will learn about:
working on various equipment, including: lathe, linisher, saw, drill, hand rotary tool, flat-bed and sandblaster. Hand finishing also covered.

Class Materials

Please bring the following to class:
Students will need to bring the following: Safety glasses, dust mask, ear muffs, pen and paper, permanent paint marker and camera. Suitable clothing must be worn, long pants, no loose flowing shirts, long hair tied back and please bring gumboots.
