Course Outline

Suited to the beginner,  this four day course is intended to fast track your knowledge and get you started in the world of kiln formed glass.  Covering a wide range of fusing and slumping topics students will become competent very quickly in learning how to design, prepare and construct projects. Students can expect to produce approximately 5 -8 finished pieces; projects can include platters, bowls, wall panels, sculptural pieces or window hangers. This class covers; cutting glass, glass selection, preparing glass for firing, inclusions, fusing and slumping, firing schedules, understanding a kiln and kiln selection. This class incorporates kiln formed glass level 1 and 2 along with tasters from a selection of other courses we have on offer at Blue Dog Glass.  Some glass provided, additional materials will cost from $100 depending on projects selected.

You will learn about:
Cutting glass. glass selection. preparing glass and kiln for firing. designing for glass. various fusing applications. slumping glass, making simple slump moulds. working on a torch to create inclusions to use in fusing. such as twisites and stringer. firing schedules. dilutions and glass behavior in kiln. working with frit. kiln carving.

Class Materials

Please bring the following to class:
• Dust mask • Safety glasses • Suitable working clothing (including closed shoes, long pants and an apron for over shirt) • Oil fed glass cutter (available from Blue Dog Glass $38) • Pencil and paper • Small ruler or measuring tape • Windex and paper towel • Scrap Bullseye Glass • Bullseye sheet glass available from Blue Dog Glass • Scalpel or small stanely knife
