An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until March 9, 2021
This is your opportunity to learn a casting technique that will allow you to create fully three-dimensional glass forms. It is an extremely versatile process, enabling you to make almost limitless solid glass forms. The method involves making a refractory mould around a wax model. The wax is then removed – or ‘lost’ – to create a cavity, which is then filled with molten glass.
In this intensive three-day course you’ll be stepped through each part of the casting process. You’ll learn how to model and sculpt your 3D works, correctly handle solid and molten wax, make refractory moulds, calculate volumes of glass, load the kiln and fire the glass. Safe handling and OH&S will also be covered during class. Students will complete two 3D cast projects – one functional bowl and a small sculpture.
All mould materials are included in the course. However students will need to purchase suitable glass for their project (costing from approx. $80+ depending on project size).
