SUMMARY:Powder printing
DESCRIPTION:Discover a new way to create imagery on glass using glass powders.\nDrawing on traditional screen printing processes\, this easy-to-learn Powder Printing technique will introduce students to a wide range of creative possibilities using a screen and the extensive colour palette of Bullseye powders. It produces subtle colours\, surprisingly clear images and an easy to clean work space (no messy screen printing inks to wash up). \nThis half day workshop includes a brief talk on how screens are exposed\, then students will be able to make a series of four coasters using our pre-exposed images. All materials are provided and the class is ideal for beginners with little or no experience of glass\, image making or printing. \n  \nPlease bring the following to class:\nAll materials are included\, please bring a dust mask and safety glasses \n

Traditionally glass blowers would pick up pieces of pre-formed glass cane to decorate glass vessels. The adaptation of using pre-fused panels of glass was developed by an innovative team of Australian glass artists\, playing a pivotal roll within the team was Scott Chaseling. This pioneering group developed a  method of picking up pre-fused glass sheets and then rolling them into a vessel form. The level of control of image and design is far greater than usually available to glass blowers\, likewise this unique technique offers kiln formers the opportunity to present their work in a 3D format not normally available using kiln forming techniques. Students will work at Blue Dog Glass to create fused panels\, these will then be taken to a glass blowing studio where the panels will be picked up on a punty (glass blowing pipe) and rolled into a vessel form. Students do not need to have any prior experience with glass blowing\, as this part of the production process will be performed by Scott and a team of professional glass blowers.  However students will be able to assist in the hot glass studio and act as directors in the manufacture of their work. To find out more about the roll-up process\, Bullseye’s tip sheet #6 offers a great overview\, it can be viewed online at http://www.bullseyeglass.com/images/stories/bullseye/PDF/TipSheets/tipsheet_06.pdf \nStudents will make two pieces in the workshop and will gain valuable knowledge into the production process\, which they will be able to draw on in future works. All materials are included in the workshop fee. Bullseye Glass will be used in this workshop. \nAfter having studied in Australia\, Scott Chaseling traveled widely\, developing new works in new locations through teaching\, residencies and workshops. Recent solo exhibitions have been in the European Museum of Contemporary Glass\, Germany\, the Musee du Verre\,France and Canberra Museum and Gallery\, Australia. In 2006 he was invited as the Levehulme Research Fellow to the University of Sunderland in the UK and between 2007- 10 he lived and worked in Berlin\, Germany\, continuing his own art practice. Scott Chaseling’s work is represented in many international museums and private collections including the Australian National Gallery\, The Pergamon Museum\, Germany and 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art\, Japan. \nScott’s technical brilliance is clearly evident in this diverse and prolific body of work. The work that he is most commonly associated with is the roll -up technique. These vibrantly coloured works are narrative in nature featuring images on both the interior and exterior of the vessel. \nCourse Cost: $1390 ($600 dep required to secure a place\, balance due 1st feb)\nNOTE: Please read our class cancellations and transfers policies here\nContact Hours: (5 full days) \nClass Materials\nPlease bring the following to class:\nAll materials included\, students will need to bring personal protective equipment\, eye glasses\, ear protection and dust mask. And glass cutting tools \n

SUMMARY:Firing Schedules for Glass
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a kiln and not sure how to successfully fire it for glass? Or are you interested in understanding how glass fires in a variety of situations? Then this is the class for you. In this class a variety of topics will be covered to enable you to better understand how glass works in a kiln and thus have greater success when firing glass. We will discuss firing schedules for various situations including slumping\, tack fusing\, full fusing\, firing thick glass and also cover areas such as annealing\, viscosity\, COE and glass dynamics. \nThis program will be predominantly lecture based with some demonstrations. This class is suitable for the beginner. Notes provided. \n

SUMMARY:Murrine tile making
DESCRIPTION:Murrine are tiles of pattern that have been created by layering up a design in a block of glass\, melting it together then cutting it with a diamond saw. These tiles are then fused into a final piece of glass to create interesting and repetitive patterns. Often in the kiln forming studio we will make these in the form of pattern bars\, however true murrine cane is stretched out in a glory hole (hot box in a glass blowing studio) so the design is stretched and reduced in diameter. This process is very similar to the traditional method of making rock candy. It is a rare opportunity for kiln formers to get the chance to work alongside a glass blower in a hot shop to create these wondrous tiles of intricate design\, but we are lucky enough to have Maureen Williams and Mariella McKinley working with us at Maureen’s studio in StKilda where the prefused blocks constructed at Blue Dog\, will be stretched out. \nThe class fee includes all materials and a day in a local glass blowing studio \n
