Intensive Level 2: Expanding Horizons in Kiln-Formed Glass

Have you already mastered the fundamentals of kiln-formed glass and are ready to delve deeper into this art form? Look no further than our immersive four-day workshop, designed to enhance your existing knowledge while introducing you to exciting new techniques.

Throughout this intensive course, we will cover a wide range of topics, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of glasswork. Whether you’re a seasoned glass artist or an aspiring enthusiast, this class offers an opportunity to refine your skills and expand your artistic repertoire.

In the classroom, we will investigate the following areas:

Pattern Bars: Discover the art of crafting decorative elements by creating solid bars of glass, which are then sliced on a diamond saw to reveal stunning internal patterns.

Dammed Work: learn to construct thicker glass blocks, comprising up to six layers. Uncover the tricks to achieving even edges.

Intro to Cold Working: Embrace the world of post-firing glass manipulation by mastering techniques such as grinding, polishing, sandblasting, and engraving.

Making Wedges: Learn how to craft free-standing sculptures with varying thicknesses, from thick to thin.

Firing Schedules: Gain insight into the crucial aspect of firing schedules, learning how to optimise results and achieve desired outcomes in your kiln-formed glass projects.

To enrol in this class, participants should have a minimum of six months’ experience working with glass. While some glass will be provided, students are expected to contribute their own materials for certain projects. An estimated cost of around $200 should be allocated for these additional materials. 4 days Wednesday 19th to Saturday 22rd Feb 2025
