Immerse yourself in the world of image-making on glass in this focused 5-day workshop. Tailored for both newcomers and seasoned glass artists, the course offers a deep dive into screen printing using vitreous enamels, combining the precision of printmaking with the durability and beauty of glass.
Throughout the workshop, you will learn various methods for creating images that can be transferred onto glass through screen printing. The course starts with an introduction to digital and hand-drawn techniques, which will be prepared for exposure onto a silk screen in a darkroom setting.
You will create several test pieces that explore different techniques and effects. This includes making two small glass stacks to practice before moving on to a final 14-layer glass stack. This layered approach allows you to work with depth, transparency, and colour interaction, leading to a visually engaging final piece.
The workshop covers all the technical steps involved, from preparing screens and mixing enamels to applying them and firing the glass. You’ll also learn how to address common issues that may arise during the process.
