Join us in Portland Oregon for this 5 day class. Bullseye Glass have put together a special package for Blue Dog Glass which covers a variety of kiln formed glass techniques. Participants will learn:

The Colour Lab: Mixing Powders:

Even when working with the largest palette of tested-compatible coloured glass available, you may find yourself seeking a colour that isn’t available as an “off-the-shelf” option in the Bullseye line. As a student in The Colour Lab: Mixing Powders, you will develop a system to zero-in on specific colours and greatly expand your ability to understand and use the palette. Through demonstrations, discussion, and ample hands-on lab time, you will make as many as 50 samples with an enormous range of Bullseye powders at your disposal.

Metallic Drop Out Vessels:

A drop-out vessel is created by slumping a piece of glass through an elevated mold with a hole in the center. The part of the glass that “drops” through the hole can stretch considerably, significantly informing the design of the finished piece. In this instance students will use Silver Foil and Bullseye’s Alchemy glass styles to create unique and stunning metallic vessels. The Bullseye Alchemy glasses will allow students to chance to customise the final look of their piece for either a gold, silver, or bronze metallic effect. Coldworking to remove the rim further transforms the piece.

Harnessing Flow:

Explore the principles of glass flow, deformation, and displacement and learn to make work that captures a sense of movement within. The process will involve learning kilnforming basics, doing volume calculations, working with dams and refractory materials, and designing firing schedules. Basic coldworking methods will also be covered. As a student, you will make a unique cast sculpture and leave the class with enough information to keep experimenting with this versatile technique on your own.
