Crash course in fusing and slumping

 

Suited to the beginner, this five-day course is intended to fast track your knowledge and get you started in the world of kiln formed glass.  Covering a wide range of fusing and slumping topics, students will become competent very quickly in learning how to design, prepare and construct projects. Students can expect to produce approximately 5 -8 finished pieces; projects can include platters, bowls, wall panels, sculptural pieces or window hangers. This class is made up of demonstrations, presentations and plenty of time for students to explore their new found skills. Class size is limited to 6 students so there is plenty on one on one time with the tutor.

Cutting glass

Glass selection and designing for kiln forming

Preparing the glass for firing

Textures and slumping moulds

Firing schedules and correct use of a kiln

Preparing kilns shelves

Working across a variety of forms of glass; Sheet glass, frit, stringer, rod and powder

Morning tea is provided. Please note the projects will not be ready to take home on the day of the class, students will need to come back to the studio a week later or Blue Dog can arrange sending the finished works out. Class runs 10 -4 Monday 22nd july to Thursday 25th, please note class will finish at 1pm on Friday 26th July

Please bring the following to class:
• Dust mask • Safety glasses • Suitable working clothing (including closed shoes, long pants and an apron for over shirt) • Oil fed glass cutter (available from Blue Dog Glass ) • Pencil and paper • Small ruler or measuring tape • Windex and paper towel • Scrap Bullseye Glass • Bullseye sheet glass available from Blue Dog Glass • Scalpel or small stanely knife. Lunch
