Learn a casting technique that will allow you to create three-dimensional glass forms. Lost wax an extremely versatile process, enabling you to make almost limitless solid glass forms. Students will learn how to make suitable refractory moulds over a wax model. The wax is then removed – or ‘lost’ – to create a cavity, which is then filled with molten glass.

In this intensive five-day course you’ll be stepped through each part of the casting process. You’ll learn how to model and sculpt your 3D works, correctly handle solid and molten wax, make refractory moulds, calculate volumes of glass, load the kiln and fire the glass. Safe handling and OH&S will also be covered during class. Students will complete two 3D cast projects – one functional bowl and a sculpture piece. This class is suited to beginners or those with some experience who wish to expand their knowledge.

All mould materials are included in the course. However students will need to purchase suitable glass for their project (costing from approx. $80+ depending on project size). Max 6 students. Class runs from Saturday 8th October to Wednesday 12th
